Darjeeling, First Flush
This rare offering is the finest that the Darjeeling region of West Bengal has to offer. "First Flush" refers to the harvesting of only the first tender leaves of new spring growth. Sold as a black, this tea has some of the delicate characteristics of a Chinese oolong, owing to its early harvest and gentle processing. A pronounced fruity aroma leads to profound floral notes through the first few steepings, finally progressing to a brisk, rich cup. This example from the revered Castleton Estate truly lives up to Darjeeling's reputation as the "champagne of teas."
