N. America
/
Berberis vulgaris
Barberries are a tart delight, like a tiny craisin. Also known as Zereshk, Barberries are traditionally used in Middle Eastern cuisine. They add a bright flavor to Persian rice and roast meats. Barberries add intense flavor to jams and chutneys and can also be used in baked goods like breads, fruit cake or muffins. They pair well with saffron and orange.
Try with Orange Tarragon Green Beans, Saffron Barberry Nougat, Cascade Turkey Roulade, Porcini Soda Bread, Kashmiri Curry Breakfast Cookies, Wild Rice with Savory and Oyster Mushrooms, Golden Turmeric Granola with Barberries, Garam Masala Meatballs with Mango and Barberry Chutney, Barberry-Caraway Loaf, Sumac Cauliflower Steak with El Greco Spelt Salad, and Barberry and Orange Tart
