Brown Sugar Iced Hojicha Latte

Brown Sugar Iced Hojicha Latte

Hojicha powder is not your typical Japanese green tea. The tea leaves, stems, stalks and twigs are gently roasted for a toasty aroma. Then the mixture is ground to a fine powder that resembles cocoa. This powder is so versatile! You can enjoy it hot or cold, and in baking.

For this quick iced latte, just pull out the cocktail shaker! Often the fine hojicha powder is broken up with a matcha whisk or electric milk frother, but I found that once shaken on the rocks with a little brown sugar and milk of choice, the tea pours frothy and ice cold. There is a lot of room for creativity by adding boba or sweetening your latte with sweetened condensed milk. If you like mellow, nutty, malty teas, give this latte a try.

Preparation

Fill  2 pint glasses with ice and set aside.

Next, fill a cocktail shaker 3/4 of the way full with ice and add the brown sugar, hojicha and milk. Close and shake vigorously for 20 seconds.

Pour the frothy hojicha mixture into the iced glasses and enjoy immediately.
