Nigella sativa

Used extensively as a flavoring in India and to season the flat bread "nan". Experiment with toasting these tiny black seeds in a dry skillet and then adding to vegetable stir fries. We like to sprinkle Nigella on baked sweet potatoes. This is frequently mis-translated to be "black cumin" but that's a different plant called Kala Jeera; this is the genuine article. Comes from the "love-in-the-mist" plant that grows well here in the Pacific Northwest.
