Until very recently, Montreal’s population consisted almost entirely of people of British or French descent.

This marinade highlights the French flair for deft seasoning—and red wine!—and British love of large slabs of beef.

Your favorite cut of steak

1 tablespoon Montreal Steak Spice Blend

1/2 cup hearty red table wine

2 tablespoons olive oil (or canola oil)

1 clove fresh garlic, crushed

1 teaspoon kosher salt

Mix all ingredients.
Place in large, sturdy zip-lock bag
or large, shallow air-tight container.
Add steak.
Refrigerate 2 hours or overnight.
Bring to room temperature before grilling or broiling.
